Chapter 1

Early Life

Glenn grew up in New Concord, Ohio, and became a Marine Corps aviator and test pilot before joining NASA’s first astronaut group.

Chapter 2

A Big Question

Complete a multi-orbit human mission safely while NASA was still learning how spacecraft, tracking stations, and computers worked together.

Chapter 3

What Happened

Friendship 7 completed three Earth orbits in 1962 and helped establish U.S. orbital human spaceflight.

Chapter 4

Why It Matters

The mission strengthened confidence in orbital navigation, tracking, and spacecraft systems.

Chapter 5

Explore the Connection

Glenn’s orbit is directly connected to Katherine Johnson’s trajectory work and the orbital paths TransitSatellite visualizes.
