TransitSatellite has always been about connection.
The original TransitSatellite began as a family-owned satellite services business, helping people connect through satellite television and internet services. The idea behind the name was simple: wherever our customers were, we would find a way to get them connected.
The name also carried a connection to space history. It was inspired in part by Transit, the pioneering satellite navigation system developed beginning in 1958 that helped demonstrate how satellites could be used for navigation long before GPS became part of everyday life.
Even the word Transit represented what we wanted the business to stand for — movement, accessibility, and reaching people wherever they happened to be.
A New Chapter
Years after the original satellite services business closed, the TransitSatellite name and domain remained.
In 2026, TransitSatellite began a completely new chapter.
What started as a father-and-son school project became an opportunity to bring the name back to life in a way that returned it to space itself.
Instead of helping people connect through satellites, we began building a platform that helps people find, track, save, and understand the satellites, planets, and missions above and around them.
Today, TransitSatellite is being developed by Transit Satellite LLC as an independent space intelligence and education platform where students, families, skywatchers, teachers, and lifelong space enthusiasts can explore Earth's active orbital environment and the wider Solar System.
Built to Make Space Easier to Explore
There are thousands of satellites orbiting Earth, supporting communications, navigation, weather forecasting, scientific research, Earth observation, and many other technologies we rely on every day.
Yet understanding what's actually happening above us can still feel complicated.
We're building TransitSatellite to change that.
Our platform brings satellite information, Solar System exploration, saved-user tools, and Library content together in one place. Users can:

The Library is an important part of that mission. It gives users searchable pages about satellites, planets, moons, historical figures, missions, engineering, and the science behind what they are seeing on the tracker and Solar System map.

One of the things that makes this chapter of TransitSatellite special is how it began.
This isn't a platform that started in a large technology company or a corporate boardroom.
It began with a father and son sitting down together and asking a simple question:
What could we build?
That question turned into research, ideas, code, troubleshooting, late-night problem solving, and eventually a working platform capable of tracking real satellites, showing a Solar System experience, saving user-selected objects, and publishing educational Library pages.
TransitSatellite has become both a learning experience and something we hope can grow into a useful resource for people around the world.
We believe curiosity is one of the best ways to learn, and sometimes the best way to understand technology is simply to start building with it.
From Transit to TransitSatellite
More than half a century ago, the original Transit navigation system helped demonstrate what could become possible when we looked beyond Earth for answers.
Decades later, the original TransitSatellite business used satellite technology to help connect customers on the ground.
Today, the TransitSatellite name begins another journey — this time helping people explore the spacecraft, planets, missions, and stories connected to the space around Earth.
The technology has changed.
The mission has evolved.
But the idea behind the name remains remarkably similar:
Connecting people with what's possible through satellites.
Over time, the TransitSatellite brand may grow into broader tracking and intelligence tools. For now, the platform is focused on space, satellites, Solar System exploration, and education.

TransitSatellite uses public and third-party data sources to help users explore satellites, planets, missions, and space activity.
Some features use live or near-live data, while some sections are educational, preview, demo, or visually simplified for readability. Solar System distances and mission views may be visually compressed so users can explore them on a normal screen.
TransitSatellite is an independent platform. Historical references to the Transit satellite navigation program and references to public agencies, companies, missions, or data providers are provided for educational, historical, and attribution purposes. They do not imply affiliation, sponsorship, or endorsement.
