Transit 1B

Transit 1B was an early U.S. Navy navigation satellite that demonstrated the basis of Doppler satellite positioning; its successor program developed into the operational Transit navigation system.

transit-1b is a navigation satellite mission focused on the mission’s assigned destination; its mission record separates planned measurements from the results actually documented.

For transit-1b, the defining design choice was to use a navigation satellite mission for early foundation for space-based positioning. That choice determines what the spacecraft can observe, how it moves or operates, and what risks the team must manage.

For transit-1b, the cited record places the spacecraft at the mission’s assigned destination; the engineering profile keeps its instrument, power, communications, and navigation details separate from the mission narrative.

Documented result: Early foundation for space-based positioning. For transit-1b, that result is the evidence users can compare with the original objective and source record.
