Orbital satellite tracking

Live Satellite Tracker

Search tracked satellites orbiting Earth and explore calculated positions and orbital paths after the current orbital dataset loads.

Explore space stations, communications satellites, weather satellites, navigation spacecraft, scientific missions and Earth-observation satellites.

Explore satellites orbiting Earth

Make your next pass a night outside

Start with a visible pass and your own eyes. Add a sky chart, a dim red light, or comfortable binoculars when they fit the way you observe.

The ISS can be visible without equipment. A telescope or camera tripod does not automatically track a moving satellite.

About the tracker

Explore satellites on a 3D map

TransitSatellite uses orbital elements to calculate where supported tracked satellites are located above Earth after orbital data has loaded. Calculated positions are then updated continuously in the browser while source orbital data is refreshed periodically.

After the tracker loads, select supported satellites to inspect available altitude, velocity, latitude, longitude and trajectory information. Location-based tools can also estimate upcoming passes for supported tracked objects.

Calculated satellite positions

Once orbital data loads, explore calculated positions for supported spacecraft in the tracker catalog.

Interactive orbital paths

Select supported objects after loading to explore their calculated trajectories around Earth.

Satellites above you

For supported objects, location-based tools can calculate horizon visibility and estimate upcoming satellite passes.

Satellite tracker questions

Are the satellite positions live?

After orbital data loads, positions are continuously calculated from orbital elements in the browser. Orbital source data is refreshed periodically rather than received as second-by-second telemetry from each spacecraft.

Can I see which satellites are above me?

For supported tracked objects, location-based tools can calculate direction, elevation, distance and upcoming passes after satellite data loads and location permission is granted.

Does a predicted pass guarantee visibility?

No. Clouds, haze, terrain, buildings, light pollution and satellite brightness can all affect whether a spacecraft is visible with the naked eye.

Why do satellite positions change?

Satellites move through their orbits while Earth rotates beneath them. The satellite's orbit, altitude, inclination and the observer's location affect where the spacecraft appears at a given time.
